Save Ugly Betty

Ugly Betty is one of the best written shows on television today. It is campy, funny, timely and at times, very poignant. It's one of those shows that can make you laugh as well as make you cry. Ugly Betty is the American version of a famous telenovela, spotlighting the optimism and ambition of a positive female Hispanic role model; and it has been very gay friendly. Now ABC has announced that it will cancel the show at the end of it's fourth season.

In television history, some shows doomed to cancellation, have been resurrected due to the support and demand from their loyal audiences. With enough voices, Ugly Betty can be saved. Join the on-line petition and add your voice to the drive. Click here to sign your name: Save Ugly Betty Petition.

Another tactic to save Ugly Betty, involves contacting ABC directly. You can write a quick comment to the executives at ABC, by filling out a short form here: Contact ABC.

Federal Judge Deciding Fate of Prop 8 is Gay

I just read the most fascinating tidbit about the federal judge, deciding the fate of Proposition 8. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Judge Vaughn Walker, appointed to the bench by President Bush senior, is gay!

Judge Walker is known to be rather conservative and before his appointment, he was criticized by many in the LGBT community for being anti-gay. According to political insiders, Judge Walker has never attempted to hide his sexual orientation and feel that his orientation will be irrelevant when he decides the case.

Whether his verdict will favor the LGBT community or not, I find the whole situation very ironic. What are the chances that this case would have randomly been assigned to a gay federal judge? Of course, it is widely believed that any outcome will be appealed; but at least we have someone, deciding our fate at this stage, who truly understands the issues we face as gay Americans.

Testimony, in the case, concluded a couple of weeks ago. Later this month Judge Walker is expected to schedule the closing arguments and then will make his decision soon after that. Stay tuned. The show is only just beginning.
